Huda Kattan’s Best Beauty Tips – TeenVogue.com

Some of you (as in, 1.4 million of you if you subscribe to her YouTube page), are familiar with Huda Kattan’s addictive videos. Visit the Huda Beauty channel, and you can find her sharing her latest hauls, transforming herself into Maleficent, or partnering with legends in the biz like Lisa Eldridge, there are plenty of tips you can take away with even just one of her videos. So in honor of her birthday today, we rounded up some of our favorite beauty hacks from the gorgeous star. There’s a DIY acne trick, a quirky tip on perfecting your contour routine, a simple secret to a false lash look — and so much more.

For a natural acne-zapping trick:

Huda, a true believer that some of the best beauty products are found in your kitchen cabinet, loves using crushed aspirin and a couple of drops of lemon juice to combat blemishes. “It gets a little foamy and that’s totally fine — you want it to be a little pasty. It has salicylic acid in it, which helps dries out acne and renew your skin,” she says. Leave it on overnight to shrink a zit by morning.

For instant, full brows:

The beauty star is known for quirky, out-of-the-box ways to achieve Cara D-worthy brows — take, for instance, this caliper trick. But if time isn’t on your side, just take a clean mascara spoolie that you can find at the drugstore, spray it with hairspray, and brush your brows up. “The transparency of hairspray makes sure it doesn’t turn white like the way some brow gels do,” says Huda.

For a perfect cat-eye, every time:

Got a surplus of back-to-school supplies? Use a Post-It following the angle of your lower lash line to create symmetrical cat eyeliner. “It’s less sticky than tape,” says Huda.

The right way to shampoo your hair:

Remember those shampoo commercials where the models pile all their freshly washed hair on top of their heads? Apparently, it’s the worst. “It’s really bad for your strands to rub and tangle your hair together. It’ll cause them to break, especially if you have curly hair like I do,” she says.

For a false lash look without extensions:

After a coat of mascara, use a clean spoolie and gently swirl it on top of a cotton ball so the spoolie picks up a little bit of fluff. Brush the spoolie over your lashes, then repeat the process one more time for a volumized, full look (without the falsies!).

For perfect, even contouring:

Huda’s silly — yet totally simple — contour hack? Use a couple of pieces of tape to indicate exactly where you need to shade. Placing the tape over the back of your hand before putting it on your face causes it to lose some of the stickiness. Tape from the middle of your ear to your mouth — and again from the top of your ear to your mouth. This will form a small triangle where your contour will go.

The prettiest, defined curls:

By wrapping small sections of hair around the barrel of the curling iron (without clamping) and pointing the tip of the iron downwards, you’ll get a defined, natural-looking curl. If you want a lot of volume, change the direction of the curl every few strands.

For a plumper lip look:

Line your lips with a dark berry liner starting from the top and working your way to the bottom (don’t forget the corners of your mouth). “You can go a tad farther above your natural lip line on top, but make sure you don’t overline the bottom,” says Huda. Take a pink lip color and fill in your mouth, blending together. Trace a nude lipliner right underneath the original, darker line to give the illusion of a full pout. Finally, take the pink lip color again and blend everything together. Fix any mistakes with a little foundation.

For brighter skin:

Huda has the best DIY tricks up her sleeve, like this brightening scrub. Halve a ripe lemon, sprinkle a little bit of sugar on top, and add a drizzle of honey on top of the lemon. Blend it with your fingers and rub the lemon onto your skin. “I’ve found that it exfoliates really well, gets rid of uneven spots, and even treats acne spots,” says Huda.

For blackhead removal:

For an at-home pore-cleansing mask, first place a warm, wet towel on your skin for a few minutes to open up your pores. Take a teaspoon of baking soda, a teaspoon of toothpaste, and a spoonful of water to create your DIY mixture. Brush it onto your skin with a toothbrush and rub it in for 2-3 minutes in circular motions. Then, wipe it away with your damp towel.
