Tips from the pros: Elena Blair shares the secrets to successful lifestyle photography – imaging resource

If you want to improve your photography, it pays to look at what the professionals are doing and then learn from them. That’s not to say that you should rigidly follow their style or advice to the letter — the exception to the rule can often be a great shot too — but pros have a great sense for what works well in their field and what doesn’t.

And if you want to improve your lifestyle photography, Elena S Blair‘s tips for successful lifestyle photography, as shared with the Huffington Post, will prove very educational. Blair, whose superb lifestyle photos can be seen on her website and Instagram feed, left a career in nursing and parlayed a love of photography into a full-time career. As well as shooting photos for her clients, she also offers month-long lifestyle photo courses in concert with the folks at Click Photo School.

In the Huffington Post article, Blair shares seven tips with which to improve your lifestyle photography, but to our mind the most important tip of all can be found right in the story’s lede. Less experienced photographers might see lifestyle photography as the art of recording moments in your subjects’ lives, but according to Elena, it’s important to move past that misconception and realize that it’s not breaking the rules to help in the creation of those moments, either.
