Preparing pets for baby

The Ocean State Animal Coalition offers a seminar on preparing pets for a new baby Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Rhode Island Spay/Neuter Clinic, 235 Elm St., Warwick. The program for expectant, adoptive or foster parents as well as child caregivers with dogs, cats or other pets focuses on how to prepare pets for the arrival of a new child. Helpful tricks, tips and advice will be shared, as well as resources that can be implemented immediately. osac.org.

Tennis and pickleball

Free tennis lessons are available at Colt State Park’s sports complex in Bristol off Route 114 Tuesday, July 22 and 29, from 5 to 8 p.m. A beginner to advanced beginner session runs from 5 to 6 p.m., cardio tennis from 6 to 8 p.m. and pickleball (a combination of tennis, badminton and table tennis) from 6 to 8 p.m. Equipment is provided. Amputee support group

Kent Hospital and the New England Amputee Association hold an informational group meeting for amputees and their families Wednesday from 4:30 to 6 p.m., at Kent Hospital Outpatient Rehab, 1351 South County Trail, East Greenwich. The association’s mission is to reach out to people with limb loss and provide a supportive environment where information and experiences are shared and friendships are formed. Scleroderma support meeting

RICADV benefit

Confreda Greenhouses and Farms, 2150 Scituate Ave., Hope, hosts its annual Ladies’ Night Out Thursday from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Guests will make a $ 20 donation at the door for an evening of relaxing pampering treatments, samples from the Confreda Farmers’ Market and local wineries, a farm tour and more. Carl’s pool ride

The second annual Carl’s Pool Ride is set for Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. in the parking lot of the Bocce Club, 226 St. Louis Ave., Woonsocket. The 30-mile loop course travels through Bellingham, Sheldonville, North Attleboro, Cumberland and the bike path in Valley Falls. Carl’s Pool Ride is named in honor of Carl Newell, who shook the affliction of alcohol and became a successful businessman. Proceeds benefit Carl’s Scholarship Fund, which helps defray costs for supportive housing for men, including veterans, who are in recovery from alcohol and drug addiction. Yoga class

Yoga instructor Emily Leahy, owner of The Space in Providence, presents a “Yoga for Every Body” class Saturday at 10 a.m. at Armory Park, Hudson and Parade streets, Providence. All body types are welcome (flexible, stiff, new, experienced, all levels). Donations are welcome and mats are available but limited so attendees should bring their own. 5K and Triathlon to Crush Cancer

The For Kids’ Sake Foundation hosts a 5K/Triathlon to Crush Cancer Sunday, July 27, at North Attleboro Town Hall, 43 South Washington St., North Attleboro, with the triathlon starting at 9 a.m. and the 5K at 10 a.m. The For Kids’ Sake Foundation was founded by Meg and Glen Jusczyk, whose daughter, Malia, was diagnosed with stage IV neuroblastoma at age 2. Newport Initiative Presentation

A Newport Initiative Presentation on “DSM-5: What Is New and What You Have to Know, Part 1,” is scheduled for Tuesday, July 29, 9 a.m. to noon, at Child and Family, 1268 Eddy St., Providence. The program (first of two parts), presented by Dennis Ghindia, an associate professor at Rhode Island College School of Social Work, provides participants with an overview and an understanding of what has changed in the new version of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. Family night

Tickets are still available for Home and Hospice Care of Rhode Island’s annual Family Night at McCoy Stadium, Pawtucket, Wednesday, July 30, from 5 to 7 p.m. with game time at 7:05 p.m. Tickets are $ 26 and include a night of baseball and an all-you-can eat barbecue of hamburgers, cheeseburgers, hot dogs, grilled chicken breasts, cold salads, potato chips, ice cream, lemonade and ice tea. Player autographs, a silent auction and a drawing are also included. Children 2 and younger are admitted free. This year, 12-year-old Hunter Grace will throw out the first ball. Hunter’s brother, Cole, was a patient of Home and Hospice Care of Rhode Island. All proceeds benefit the hospice organization, which has offered medical, emotional and spiritual care for people facing life-challenging illnesses for more than 35 years. Nutrition lecture

The Neighborhood Guild, 325 Columbia St., South Kingstown, hosts a lecture by nutrition specialist Lynda Wells July 30 and Aug. 6 at 6:30 pm. The topic is “The Mood Cure: The Four-Step Program to Take Charge of Your Emotions.” She will discuss the best brain foods and the natural ways to correct malfunctions in brain and body chemistry.
