Simply Slender extents it’s services to St. Clair County – New Baltimore Voice Newspapers

Food-prep services, cooking classes and rent-a-chef events are just a few amenities offered by Simply Slender, which is branching out into the St. Clair and Marine City areas.

Jill Jacobsen, 42, of Macomb Township, is the owner and originator of Simply Slender, a wholesale health and natural nutrition company.

Jacobsen brings her knowledge of health, and herself, right into the homes of others by performing demonstrations on healthy food preparation and cooking for her attendees. These demonstrations can either be hands-on where each participant prepares and cooks their own food or Jacobsen will cook for all as she explains her ingredients and process then serves the finished product. Simply Slender provides all ingredients during these demos for the host and guests to enjoy.

“I want to change people’s perspective,” said Jacobsen. “You don’t need to eat just a salad to be healthy. I like to take comfort foods and put a healthy twist on them.”

These parties are kept on a more intimate level by asking hosts to only invite four to 20 guests. Prices will range from $ 25 to $ 27 per person up to $ 65 per person depending on how many courses are desired. Simply slender also provides aprons for the at-home cooks and each guest receives a gift basket filled with healthy snacks and merchandise.

“We never want to push prices on them,” said Jacobsen. “It’s really about what they want. We also can do modifications on a dish for those with food allergies.”

Simply Slender came to fruition ten years after Jacobsen’s first step into the entrepreneurial world. With the need to find a source of income to help support her family, Jacobsen opened Team Fit, a gym that provided her a way to pursue her fitness passion.

In order to help her clients continue their fitness and health at home, Jacobsen would pass along recipes for them to try. One of these clients suggested that she start a blog posting her healthy dishes for all to try. Her blog, found online at simplyslenderfoods.com, evolved into three books and the beginning of her packaging some of her snacks for sale.

At first, Simply Slender products could only be found in the Team Fit gyms. Eventually, this small business venture extended itself to other area gyms and even Henry Ford Macomb Hospital.

A rental kitchen in Mount Clemens serves as the main hub for all the cooking and packaging of the snack item Jacobsen sells known as Pow Chow, a high protein, all-natural, gluten-free alternative to the well-known Puppy Chow snack. There are multiple flavors to choose from including almond butter and chocolate, sunflower butter and chocolate, and peanut butter and chocolate. Continued…

“It can get discouraging at times,” said Jacobsen. “But this is my baby. Success doesn’t happen overnight and it’s all come a long way.”

However, she does believe her endeavors are successful. Team Fit now employs 14 trainers and has multiple locations. She has partnerships with hospitals and schools not only for her fitness classes but for food and cooking demonstrations as well.

As of Sept. 19, Team Fit is running Adult programs at Eddy Elementary in St. Clair, as well as Tai-Chi classes at St. Clair City Hall. Beginning in October, Cardio and weight classes will be offered in Marine City. Simply Slender will be available in these downriver areas in January. A dream of Jacobsen’s is to one day have a place to hold classes and demonstrations.
