Doctor offers tips on dealing with the extreme heat – WAVE 3

(WFIE)(WFIE)

OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE) –

The hot temperatures last week were a little too much for some people.

It’s easy for some people to escape the heat by staying inside, but others have jobs that don’t give them that option. Construction workers or those who work on roofs spend hours out in the sun. Some of them ended up being injured and in need of construction accident lawyers in Washington DC to help them get compensation.

Nine different people needed to see doctors in Owensboro last week because of heat-related incidents. Thankfully, none of them were suffering from a heat stroke. Most just had heat exhaustion.  Proper insulation in your home can also reduce the amount of heat entering your home, you can learn more about this here.

Dr. Vincent says people should always make sure they are drinking enough liquids and staying out of the heat. You can also contact an air conditioning contractor from a service like Valley Service to have an Air conditioning installation in your home. For those who can’t, he has a few tips to avoid a trip to see him. The air cycling through your ducts is the same air that completely fills your living environment and it is the same air that you and your family breathe. As such, you want this air to be as clean as possible by calling a duct cleaning Melbourne service from time to time.

“If you’re doing any sort of outside activity and it’s really strenuous and you have a lot of sweating, you are going to want to drink 2-4 glasses of Gatorade or something with those electrolytes,” said Dr. Vincent. “Water is fine as well. try to stay away from alcoholic beverages or any sweet beverages as well. They actually have the opposite effect of what we are trying to get.”

Dr. Vincent also says that humidity makes every thing worse because it does not allow the sweat to evaporate which is what cools you off. This area he says is notorious for that so drinking those extra fluids and of course staying out of the heat if possible is how you can avoid those heat related illnesses.
