Serena Williams Shares Her On-Court Beauty Secrets – PEOPLE

With the 2016 U.S. Open tennis tournament is officially in full swing, we’re certain of two things: 22-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams is dominating her opponents — and making an unforgettable fashion statement in the process.

Thus far her winning look has been a pleated black and fuchsia Nike piece, which she’s accessorizing with a pale pink manicure and bedazzled accent nail or two.

“I’ve really been in this phase of muted colors right now,” shared the pro of her recent mani inspo when PeopleStyle caught up with her at the U.S. launch of intimates brand Berlei (for which the athlete is an ambassador).

At the event, Williams also hinted at at the possibility of a “party nail,” which is exactly how we would describe her two disco-ball like tips.

Over the years, the pro’s mani game has been as strong as her tennis one, and for good reason: in addition to her fashion degree from The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale, the 34-year-old is a trained nail technician.

But aside from awesome nails, Williams keeps her on-court makeup to a minimum.

I wear eyeliner on the court, and that’s it. I don’t really wear [other] makeup because it always runs. It’s not like we’re rhythmic gymnasts who look so beautiful when they do their routine! We’re drenched all the time.”

Also on hand in her racquet bag: mascara, and a ton of SPF. “I never leave home without it. I go with [an SPF of] 55 — and I always reapply.”
