When considering the secrets of success, there is one factor that can’t be overlooked and that’s a positive attitude. If you change your mindset from a negative to positive, you have the power to change your life. Many people struggle with their dreams and live a life unfulfilled due to self-sabotage. Though people want to achieve great things, they continually allow negative thoughts to rob any progress made. There are many situations where people feel powerless, but this doesn’t mean you can’t be successful. To be truly successful, you must identify areas you have no control over, then ensure you respond to those situations accordingly. You can’t control other people, but you can control how you respond to negativity. Change your mindset and you will access an arsenal of weapons that will not only bring you success but ultimately change your life.

The word “if” may be small, but it’s extremely powerful. Many people use the word to make excuses. Some blame their lack of success in life on their parents, their educational level, their backgrounds or personal situations. They might say to themselves if only they were born in a different situation, they could be successful. It doesn’t matter what happened in your past, who your parents are or were, your financial situation or any struggle you have endured. Yes, the situations you experience shape you and transform you into the person you become, but they do not define who you are. Everyone has the opportunity to achieve his or her dreams, but many fail to do so because of negative thinking. In order to become successful, you must assess your life, look at issues that have been holding you back and then choose to respond to those situations with a positive attitude.

You can’t control the words people say to you, but you can control how you respond to them. You may have been the victim of abuse, neglect, poverty and lived a life of unfair circumstances. Those situations do not define you. They are experiences that shape you, but they are not who you are. How you deal and cope with these situations will have a direct impact on your success in life.
