Mice engineered to lack the enzyme, called telomerase, become prematurely decrepit. But they bounced back to health when the enzyme was replaced. The finding, published online today in Nature1, hints that some disorders characterized by early ageing could be treated by boosting telomerase activity. It also offers the possibility that normal human ageing could be slowed by reawakening the enzyme in cells where it has stopped working, says Ronald DePinho, a cancer geneticist at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts, who led the new study. “This has implications for thinking about telomerase as a serious anti-ageing intervention.” Other scientists, however, point out that mice lacking telomerase are a poor stand-in for the normal ageing process. Moreover, ramping up telomerase in humans could potentially encourage the growth of tumours. After its discovery in the 1980s, telomerase gained a

Telomerase can and could be an oncogene or carcinogen if it extends every DNA go figure….. not a rocket science….do you guys honestly belive snake oil salesmen who wear labcoats to be doctors in eahc of these videos ? I do not see them on the boards anywhere where cancer is debated….have never seen their names in any reputable magazine. Simply we need more info on telomerase. If it extends DNA then it extends the harmful and mutated cells eventually too regardless as to what they say.

It’s hard to take ‘it causes cancer’ truthfully anymore, I remember people saying Mr.Clean Magic Erasers caused cancer, and also electric transformers on power poles( grey cylinder Thingy on telephone poles)

  7. Crewie1039 says:

Soo, could decreasing the enzyme in your body decrease the cancer risk?

I just wasted three minutes of my life

  9. SlytherynProductions says:

This is true that it helps sustain DNA but cancer cells also use this enzyme. So if you use it on a regular cell, it could possibly turn into a cancer cell. And that’s why it’s also very risky to tamper with DNA.

@clancyist First step to solve that problem would be for all that gets to be immortal to have no kids and the rest only one and of course the last one we probably have to do anyways even if we dont find a way to live forever

  13. boxingisbest says:

@jmario232 Yeah for instance i have always killed flies when i got the chance to because i know im doing them a favor lol

I just hope that if I die that my next life is not something stupid. Imagine my reincarnation as a fly. I live a pathetic life for 24 hours before I croak and I am seen as a pest by everyone. The only type of species I wanna be if I reincarnate is a human being.

This is incredible however if we do ever come to achieving eternal life there will still be the downside of overpopulation and the only way we could eliminate this factor by moving to another hospitable planet, We will not have achieved a speed to get there within the next thousand years. By this i am not stating that i wouldn’t love to be immortal, just implying a major problem that would occur through it.

So you’re saying we found the fountain of youth? BTW, I love Cenk’s saying Jeez n’ Lord Mercy…. Awesome

Are you a supporter of the Big Crush Theory in which the universe expands to a certain point and then contracts to a point where it implodes? Just curious because you are saying everything has an end and that death will come eventually even if you have indefinite lifespan. I feel though that in a thousand year span we may develop high tech equipment in weaponry creating the possibility of discovering new universes to escape universal collapse if the Big Crush is real.

  18. jmario232 says:

    @toogood75
You do have a point in the fact that even if aging is cured you may die in other ways such as getting shot or something like that but safety precautions can usualy be made to prevent accidental deaths. Age is the big elephant in the room so to speak that we cannot control but if we do cure it we can save millions of lives each day which is why I support research towards finding a cure for it.

  19. toogood75 says:

@jmario232 prolong life as you will, I hope you realize it doesn’t matter if you live a million, a billion or more so years death will come eventually… nothing is infinite, nothing.

The elite/NWO make sure to keep people who really want to cure aging out of the picture. Keep breathing chemtrails, they don’t care if we live because there is so much profit in death and disease. Just ask, e.g., imminst dot org or university of florida “aging lab”. Trust me, I know.

You also lost in them, both of them.

  22. boxingisbest says:

@Cookiecrum1992 Thats the brilliant part i have figured it out! you and i and every living creature in this universe is the same person/soul we just have different bodies and brains! thats why when you die you will wake up as you just did from what seems to be nothing into a newborn something and yes sadly your body will never exist again, the things you did in this life will no one ever see again, but the bright side is that we are all the same and we will live again in a different body

  23. Cookiecrum1992 says:

@boxingisbest What are you talking about? Are you trying to suggest that when we die we are reincarnated? There is no reason to believe that anything happens to you when you die except maybe getting eaten by worms. I think nonexistence (despite how irrational it may be to fear) is probably the most terrifying aspect.

  24. boxingisbest says:

@iSkate7104 The point is to live as long as possible at least for me i have been incredible lucky to be where i am now and what happends when you die is that you wake up as a newborn human, animals or any other creature in the universe and that scares me because it could be worse than the life i have now i mean would you like to wake up as a baby in somalia? or there is probably species on other planets with even worse life out there you could end up in so just stay here as long as possible!

  25. iSkate7104 says:

You’re still going to die no matter what you take you’re going to die anyways so what’s the point
