The world’s most beautiful and famous have swallowed his advice. He wrote one of the biggest selling diet books of all time, and it was based on his extraordinary belief that you could eat as much as you desire and still lose weight. His name was Dr Robert Atkins, author of the Atkins new diet revolution. To some Dr Atkins was a hero, to others his diet was scientific heresy and potentially deadly. In a series of ground breaking experiments Horizon investigates the truth behind the most controversial diet in history. Does the Atkins diet really work and is it dangerous?

    those ketosis sticks dont really work too well if your not a diabetic etc. however if you are at the stage he was .. ie induction stage , having less than 20g carbs a day then he IS in ketosis

    This stuff about “eating as much as you want” and still losing weight is so misunderstood. The fact is, as you lose weight on the atkins diet you will naturally want to eat less and less. It’s not that more calories are burned off on atkins. Gary Taubes explains this well in both of his books on the subject. It’s a misunderstanding and misapplication of the law of thermodynamics.

    lack of fiber? I eat more veggies on the atkins than i did before. and besides its not like someone is going to stay in the extreme induction phase for 20 years lol

    @Gideon359 Just because the average American doesn’t eat enough fiber doesn’t mean that eating fiber is a stupid idea. It’s not that hard to eat 30 grams… there’s fiber in a variety of foods, not just apples. If all you eat is cheese, obviously it’s going to be hard to get 30 grams but if you eat a balanced diet its really not *that* difficult.

    when ppl talk about fiber they don’t know crap. fiber is crap that is all it is crap. In order to get all the required fiber for one day a person would have to eat like about 10 apples a day the average apple has less than 3grams of fiber, and 30grams is recommended that is why fiber is bull crap. Who in hell will eat 30 freaken grams of fiber unless your taking a fiber supplement. The average human especially the average American no way in hell consume the minimum dose of fiber.

    He must be colourblind as well, because that strip of paper is more the colour of the first square than the second – or is he rather delusioned? He thinks he in ketoses when in fact he IS NOT.
