@lobsterforpet You Sir, have no class. This is a real man’s way to smoke and relax, not to alter the mind with drugs. Trolling amongst men will not be tolerated, no go out and play little fella, and let the men enjoy our pipes. On second thought, go back to school and learn to spell the word “faggots”, which in an ironic twist began with fuel, and then continued on to cigarettes.

These videos have been helpful. I got my first pipe the other day with 3 different tobaccos about 2oz each. So far I have enjoyed it and your videos have really helped. It is now day three and I am finally getting the hang out it.

Hey Eric,What are your thoughts on pipes with metal bowls?

  5. 1968eric says:

@spidey3535 I find it best to just tamp ever so lightly during the course of the smoke.

Very helpful video…thanks! One question…is there ever a point when you’re smoking your pipe that you need to empty some of the ashes or do you just keep tapping it down?

    Awesome set of videos.
I just watched 1 thru 7 after a touch of uneducated trial and error.
Seems I pretty much have the right idea and just need to find my flavor of choice.

what happens if you don’t clean your pipe? i bought a new pipe about a month ago, and in attempts to break it in as quickly as possible i smoked it once or twice a day.. i get a little gurgle, but nothing that has effected the taste or burn.

Hello. EXCELLENT video!! I have a question: I have been smoking my pipe for about 2months, cleaning it regularly. But suddenly (past few peeks) it is growingly unenjoyable (tastewise). Any thoughts of why this could be??
    Thanks!!

Hi Eric, your videos helped me a lot getting started, but after reading around, I heard people talking about building the cake (?) can you give me a general light on that?
Anyway many thanks for your help

I rlly try hard to control the puffing, but I’m just wondering one thing. In a lot of films and series you can see people smoke a pipe. Even for minutes sometimes, but they are constantly puffing and producing enormous amounts of smoke, yet they don’t seem to feel the least uncomfortable about it (okay, i know they’re actors but still). If my pipe get’s rlly hot and the tobacco start burning far beyond taste, I have trouble keeping a pipe in my mouth, sometimes so painful/disgusting. Any idea?

Good video. I just started on a pipe, and was expecting huge copious amounts of smoke as with a cigar or cigarette, and keep drawing on it too fast in order to get that big smoke, but it just burnt my mouth and tongue. I guess pipes have to be savored a little less anxiously 🙂 I think the tobacco I have may be a bit too moist too because the smoke is coming off very hot – probably from steam generated during combustion. I’ll have to let it air out a bit before next try.

    @Dimitrispanayides

I’m Thomas. In any case, you just build up the cake over time and let it get thicker. It probably shouldn’t get thicker than about a nickel’s edge, though. It should be even top to bottom but this problem is common. I deal with it myself. Try packing more loosely so you can smoke down to the bottom and get more build-up there so you don’t have to worry about over-heating the bottom of the pipe.

  24. oswhiteboymc says:

hell yeah I like this guy.

  25. Dimitrispanayides says:

Thanks for the reply. Whats your name?
How much thick the cake must to be ..? my cake starts from 1/4 before the top of the bowl and as it gets to the heel it gets thinner and thinner, is this the way should be? or does it have to be even from top to bottom and to the edge of the bowl? Thanks 🙂
