Deadly beauty – these plants are carnivorous and attract insects by mimicking dew drops with sweet mucilage on the tip of the tentacles covering their leaves. Once an insect is lured close, it gets trapped in the sticky mucilage like on fly paper and pulled closer by the tentacles bending toward the surface of the leaf in response to contact with digestible prey. Eventually the insect dies as the sticky gel-like substance clogs its breathing pores and the plant proceeds to digest its victim by secreting enzymes.
