Five Tips For A Healthy Lifestyle – KELOLAND TV

SIOUX FALLS, SD –

Missy Woldt works out 5 to 6 days a week, but this Sioux Falls mother admits leading a healthy lifestyle can be time-consuming.

“I drink a lot of water, and I eat pretty healthy for the most part,” Woldt said. “Finding the time to get to the gym is difficult. You have to take an hour or two out of your day just to get it in.”

So here are five small steps that can make a big difference. Number one: Don’t beat yourself up, and start thinking about yourself positively.

“Think about something you’ve done good for yourself today or a time when you feel love and appreciation. It will actually boost your immunity,” Sanford Certified Wellness Coach Shelly Hoefs said.

Hoefs also says it’s good for your mental health and stress level to be present in the moment.

“Just take time to enjoy that moment, and savor it. It may not be your favorite task or favorite food, but savor what you can in the moment, and see what you discover about yourself,” Hoefs said.

Another small step you can take to improve your life? Park farther away from your destination. That will not only allow you to get in more exercise, but also provide time to reflect.

“It allows us time to be present with ourselves, and maybe observe the world around us. Get some fresh air. Those are things we don’t get very often,” Hoefs said.

You can also get exercise through grocery shopping. Set aside time to spend in the outside aisles of the store.

“When you’re shopping the outside aisles, you’re going to put good, healthy nutritious foods in your cart. You can check those nutrition labels, so you know what kind of nutrients you’re putting into your body,” Hoefs said.

Most all, Woldt says, these small steps won’t take a lot of extra time.

“It is difficult to lead an active lifestyle and make sure you have time to do all the housework, go to work, take care of your kid, make sure everyone eats. It’s just a difficult thing to fit in,” Woldt said.

Our fifth tip to improve your life? Take moments every day to stop and listen to what *you need. Hoefs says too many of us forget to take care of our own health.
