Increase Cases of Cesarean Sections: Is it a Medical Necessity? – Techsonia
According to the CDC report, one in every three women gives birth by Cesarean Section.
As reported by various studies, it is the time of great concern as doctors might be performing them more as a habit than medical necessity.
On the whole, C-sections are safe but they hold increase health risk and also cost more. One C-section declines the chance of vaginal birth in the future pregnancies.
According to the Consumer Reports, the numbers of C-sections vary from hospital to hospital in the same town. At El Paso’s University Medical Center in Texas, 15% of births are C-sections, while at Sierra Medical Center that is only four miles away, this rate is 37%.
In the present time, few women or children die during the childbirth; this has raised a concern that C-sections are overused.
According to the recommendations, doctors select C-sections when labor is too long. The Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine and the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists recommend that normal labor time can be a longer process and doctor should remain patient. New guidelines for C-sections recommend the baby weight should be more than 11-pound for the surgical birth.
