Dinner Tonight program serves healthy advice – The Picayune

Dinner Tonight Healthy Cooking School

A Dinner Tonight Healthy Cooking School is 5:30 p.m. Sept. 27 at Quail Point Lodge in Horseshoe Bay. Cost is $ 25.

HORSESHOE BAY — Eating better comes with the knowledge of what foods help the body perform at its best.

That’s the idea behind the Dinner Tonight Healthy Cooking School, which will be presented by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27, at Quail Point Lodge, 107 Twilight. Cost is $ 25.

Chef Leo Aguirre with Fischer and Weiser, Julie Gardner, a community health specialist for the extension service, and Llano County Extension Agent Jennifer Page will demonstrate dinners that are cost-effective, easy to prepare, and fit into a healthy meal plan.

“(Aquirre is a) celebrity chef who’ll make food exciting, who’ll make food fun,” Page said.

In today’s fast-paced lifestyle, nutrition and exercise don’t have to be put on the back burner, Page said.

“Dinner Tonight is designed to help busy families enjoy healthy and delicious meals, and we even provide fitness tips to help people become more active,” she added.

Tom Guthrie, the extension agent for agricultural and natural resources in Mills County, will address questions consumers might have related to food production, food safety, use of antibiotics in livestock, and the safety of genetically modified organisms (GMOs). Finally, the presentation will explain why the United States has the safest, cheapest, and most abundant food supply in the world and how technology in agriculture can ensure an adequate and safe food supply in the future.

Page said she can especially relate to working wives and mothers and their desire to create delicious food that is also nutritious.

“We all go home and throw something together and make it work,” she said. “Eating healthy food can still taste great. It’s just a lack of awareness. A lot of times, people don’t know. They don’t understand what healthy is.”

So this program is designed to help with that, she added.
