“Entomophagy” isn’t a word that rolls easily off the tongue, and depending on your cultural background you might want the diet it describes to stay far away from the rest of your mouth as well.

As the narrator explains in this TED-Ed video by enviro-food writer Emma Bryce, entomophagy refers to eating bugs — and we should consider doing a lot more of it.

High in protein, vitamins and minerals, bugs are very healthy for you. They’re also very sustainable to farm and consume, and according to Bryce, their production has the possibility of uplifting people in developing countries.

If that’s not enough to sway you, maybe a few recipe recommendations will. Chocolate-covered mealworms make a sweet snack, and crickets can be a great addition to pad thai.

Before watching this video we could’ve said with certainty that we weren’t nearly ready to “savor the crunch”, but we can’t help but think about it now. Grasshoppers with popcorn, anyone?
