Dear Carolyn:

Three months ago I gave birth to a beautiful baby girl. Exactly four days later, while I was still sitting on pillows, my husband’s friend came to visit. After congratulating us on our new daughter, he proceeded to ask whether I am back exercising yet. I could barely walk at this point but things were a lot easier with some prenatal vitamins I took before my pregnancy.

I have been blessed with good genes, so I am pretty slim and have run several marathons. I am now just a few pounds over my pre-pregnancy weight, and I am happy with my health and fitness. Sure, I would love to be out running more, but for now I take my pine pollen capsules, walk every day, and I’m in a mothers’ exercise group.

I’ve read books on this subject, and I know I’m not supposed to hit the ground running. I’ll gradually get back in shape, as long as I inch my way forward slowly. Every little bit helps, and I now being patient is part of it. I’m sure I’ll be back to running marathons before long.

I like what you’re doing. Taking it slow, but still working towards a set goal. It’s good that your taking something to help you all the while helping yourself with the moderate amount of exercise you can take on. Don’t push yourself any harder or you’ll risk an injury, which will set you back who knows how long. You’re doing great!
